Auckland Airport Parking

If you are leaving Auckland for pleasure or business, ten-to-one you will arrive by car and be looking for the best deal you can find with Auckland Airport parking sites.

Auckland Airport (or Mangere Airport locally) is the largest airport in New Zealand and deals with over thirteen million passengers a year. It is set among fields and close to Manukau harbour and only 40 or 20 minutes away from Auckland City and Manukau respectively by car or bus. But the airport serves far people more than those who live in these two cities. Not only that, it is the entry point for many international visitors that arrive to see the delights the area has to offer. All these people in and out of the domestic and international airport terminals make it quite busy. As such, there are multiple car parks to cope with the ever increasing number of travelers.

There is dedicated Auckland Airport parking for both the domestic and international terminals and all parks have 24/7 security. Just pre-book, turn up with your credit card and park. If you do need to move between terminals, it’s a ten minute walk or just hop on the shuttle.

For the domestic terminal which is open from 5am to 11pm, there are four primary sites; Business Express covered, Short-Term covered and uncovered and a long-term uncovered car park. All parks are within a one to five minute walk of the domestic terminal. The closest is the Business Express which also has over 600 extra wide bays and a covered walkway directly to the terminal. The short-term car parks allow you the first ten minutes free for dropping off. There are 280 covered and 900 uncovered parking bays. If you are away for longer, the long-term car park has parking for 480 vehicles.

If you are leaving for an international destination, the terminal is open 24 hours and you have a good choice for your airport parking. Auckland has two long-term parks (one covered and one uncovered) and a short-term uncovered park. Again the first ten minutes are free in the 1500 bay short-term park and is suitable for trips of 1-3 days. The two long-term parks accommodate 2000 cars uncovered and 250 in the covered park. Security again is 24/7 at these car parks.

However, there is one more option for your Auckland Airport parking and that is the Park & Ride scheme. This is also a long-term option that is open 24/7, is secure, has over 700 spaces but is a little further away from the terminals. To get you to the terminal, there is a free shuttle service and while you wait for the frequent bus that runs every 15 minutes, there is also a customer waiting lounge.

In addition to the above, if you happen to drive a low emission vehicle or have a mobility card, you will find designated priority parking. Also, if you arrive in a campervan, have no fear, as there is also a 54 bay Campervan park close to the terminals and activities. Each site has fresh water, toilets, showers, laundry and kitchen facilities plus Wi-Fi! So whether you’ve just arrived or are heading home relax and spend the night in your Campervan.

Auckland Airport parking is a comprehensive and efficient system but it is important to book ahead to get the best deals. Just turning up on the day will not only cost you more, but you run the risk of not finding a space for your desired airport parking. Auckland has two terminals and many parking facilities and all are in close proximity of each other. So get booking and enjoy your trip! Park and Ride – Auckland Airport

Whether travelling for business or pleasure, the simplest way to get to the airport is using your own car instead of trying to get a lift or using public transport. Park and Ride Auckland Airport provide an ideal solution to your parking requirements and at a reasonable cost.

Unlike the other car parks, the park and ride Auckland Airport is a little further away from the terminals. However, as the name suggests, park and ride (or park and fly) at Auckland provides the ride to the terminals!

As with all the other Auckland Airport parking facilities, the security is tight and has 24 hour coverage.  This includes the staff making regular security patrols, electric security fencing and a monitored alarm system. This provides you with the peace of mind knowing that your car is being kept an eye on ready for your return. There are over 700 uncovered spaces to park in. Just park up, take yourself to the cosy customer’s lounge and wait to hop on the free shuttle bus that runs every 15 minutes to take you to your terminal.

The benefit of being a little further away is the price of your parking as this is usually the cheapest option. So what is it likely to cost you? Using Park and Ride Auckland Airport is again cheaper if you book ahead well in advance. You can expect to pay from just $5 a day (minimum five days). If you happen to be looking for a park and cruise service, you can get this as well at $35 but you do need to book this well in advance.

If you like, you can also have your car valeted while you are away at Park and Ride Auckland Airport – so no worries if you drive through a muddy field on the way, your car will be sparkling when you return. Depending on the level of service you require, this will cost you between $20 and $120. That said, if you really have driven through the mud and your car is overly dirty, you may have to pay a bit more.

On your return, just phone to let them know you are back before going to the pick-up point. The shuttle will come and get you and take you back to park and Ride Auckland Airport. In our opinion, this service that can be found at http://www.parknfly.co.nz.

If you want something more, you can try the drop and fly service. Basically, you drive to the airport terminal drop off point, exchange documents with a fully insured driver who then takes your car to their, secure parking area and even give it a free wash (or more if you wish to pay extra). On your return, a quick call and they bring your car back to the terminal drop off point, exchange documents and off you go. Naturally, this costs a little more at $9 a day. There is a minimum of $20 but you can get discounts of between 8 and 15% if you stay over four days. For example, 7 days with a basic car wash will cost you around $58. You will find this service at http://dropnfly.co.nz.

Auckland Airport Hotels and Accommodation

Finding decent Auckland airport hotels or accommodation is particularly useful when flying in and out of an International terminal as the flight times can be quite anti-social. There is nothing worse than dragging yourself up at 3am and having to drive more than an hour to make the flight on time. Not only that, many people have to make sure their home is secure and finish their last minute packing before they leave which means an even earlier start time.

Using Auckland airport hotels is the best answer to this problem if you don’t have somewhere nearby you can crash for the night. You can book your accommodation for the night before, pack up your home securely, take a leisurely drive down during daylight and have a relaxed evening in the knowledge that you are only a stone’s throw from your terminal.

Some of the hotels will also over parking for the duration of your trip and this is included in your hotel costs. There are two major considerations here, one is that this type of parking is rarely very secure and is at your own risk and two; your hotel accommodation will work out cheaper because it is offset by the savings you may make on your parking costs! Auckland airport hotel and parking is still a good option but you need to consider the risk to your vehicle as any damage that may, or may not be caused will be down to your own insurance.

It would seem that by far the most popular Auckland airport accommodation is at the Hotel Grand Chancellor. The Grand Chancellor is only five minutes from the airport, has some nice rooms and excellent facilities to help you relax. Parking is not included, but is available at $5 a day and includes a free Airport shuttle service. The next closest is the Holiday Inn followed by the Best Western Pioneer Motor Lodge or the Comfort Inn. Your choice obviously depends on your budget, likes and dislikes.

If you want free parking, the Eden Park B and B Inn is popular but it is nine miles from the airport itself. The closest with free parking is the Comfort Inn, but they only pick up from the terminal during reception hours. However, a taxi is unlikely to cost too much as the hotel is only a three minute drive away so worth thinking about.

So, if you are happy to leave your car at the hotel with unsecured parking and offset the cost of Auckland Airport hotels with the parking, then have a look around to find your best deals and always remember… the early bird catches the worm, so book early!

Auckland Airport Roads & Carpark Guide

It’s always nice to have an idea of where you are going, before you go!

To many times at airports in particular it is totally confusing and in a high traffic area, we can panic and easily get lost. Take the panic out of the equation and print off a map so you have at least some idea of where you are heading.

The map shown below was taken from the airport website (see link below) so hopefully it is totally up-to-date. If it isn’t, don’t rant, but just email us so we can find another one. Thanks!
